Information about ear nose and throat health problems in children

Children’s Speech Development

It’s important to discuss speech and language development, as well as other developmental concerns, with your doctor at every routine well-child visit. Pay attention to your children’s speech and language development and seek help if you have any concerns.

Children’s Tonsil and Adenoid Removal

The most common reasons to remove the tonsils and adenoids include; snoring, blockage of the nose and throat – they are too big, chronic and recurrent tonsillitis – sore throats, white debris in the tonsils – tonsil stones and bad breath.

Ear Infections and Ear Grommets

Ear infections are very common in children. One out of every three primary school age child will have some form of middle ear condition – often with reduced hearing. Infection of the middle ear is the most common cause of temporary hearing loss.

Ear problems in children

Ear infections and/or fluid in the middle ear may become a chronic problem leading to other issues such as hearing loss, behavior, and speech problems.

Snoring in Children

Enlarged tonsils and adenoids are the commonest cause of snoring in children. Removal of the adenoid and tonsils is the first line of treatment for children with sleep disordered breathing. Removal of the tonsils and adenoid cures snoring in 85 to 90% of children.

Symptoms of Acid Reflux in Children

Almost everyone experiences acid reflux from time to time. In most cases, this condition resolves when children reach 6-12 months. Acid reflux can become a problem when it extends beyond this time. So it is important to schedule an appointment with an ear nose and throat specialist in Sydney if your child has symptoms of reflux.

Tonsil and Adenoid Removal for Children Who Snore

Snoring occurs when there is some form of blockage in the breathing passage that does not allow proper air flow. In many cases, the blockage stems from swollen tonsils and adenoids.

Tonsillitis symptoms in children

Many children develop tonsillitis and/or adenoid infections. A sore throat is the most common symptom. However, additional symptoms often coincide with a sore throat. Chronic snoring in your child is one symptom that should not be ignored.

What Causes Children to Snore?

Snoring causes vary from child to child. The most common reason that children develop habitual snoring is because of enlarged tonsils and adenoids. This is why snoring surgery to remove tonsils and/or adenoids is so commonly needed.

When is Adenoid Removal Necessary

Adenoidectomy in children is commonly needed for children who experience a blocked nose, ongoing ear infection and sinus infections.
