Information about the nose
Sinus Infection
Acute bacterial sinusitis is an infection of the sinus cavities caused by bacteria. It usually is preceded by a cold, allergy attack, or irritation by environmental pollutants. Unlike a cold, or allergy, bacterial sinusitis requires a doctor’s diagnosis and treatment with an antibiotic to cure the infection.
Sinus, Hay Fever, Sinusitis and Nasal Polyps
Ear Nose Throat specialists can provide complete management of nasal and sinus conditions. Because they study the complex anatomy, physiology, and pathology of the entire head and neck, ENT specialists are uniquely qualified to manage allergic rhinitis, sinusitis and nasal polyps and perform procedures on the nose and sinuses.
Rhinoplasty
There are many indications for rhinoplasty surgery. Accordingly there are many different considerations based on the wants, needs and condition of the patient. Rhinoplasty may be performed as a scarless (closed) procedure or open structure procedure (through a small incision under the nose) depending on what is needed to best achieve the desired results.
Taste and Smell
How do smell and taste work? Taste and smell are more complicated than you might think. Taste and smell belong to our chemical sensing system. The process of smelling and tasting begins when molecules released by the substances around us stimulate special nerve cells in the nose, mouth, or throat.
If you have questions about nasal problems, contact your local doctor, who will arrange for you to see your Ear Nose and Throat Specialist.
